Frequently Asked Questions

📄 Getting Started

Tap the + button on the Home screen, then choose Scan to use your camera or Upload to import an existing file. Assign it a category and DocVault encrypts and saves it automatically.
DocVault supports photos (JPG/PNG) captured with your camera, multi-page scans merged into a single PDF automatically, and direct uploads of existing PDF, DOC, and DOCX files.

🔒 Security & Encryption

No. Documents are encrypted on your device with a key generated on your device and stored in its secure hardware keystore — it never leaves your phone, and there's no server that ever sees your files. See our Privacy Policy for details.
DocVault has no account, so there's no password reset email. If you have biometric unlock (Face/fingerprint) enabled, use that to get back in and change your PIN from Settings. If both are unavailable, the only way back in is Settings → Reset Vault — which permanently erases everything on the device. This is why keeping a backup (local export or cloud sync) is strongly recommended.
Never. Biometric checks happen entirely inside your device's secure hardware. DocVault only receives a pass/fail result.

☁️ Backup & Cloud Sync

There's no account to sign into — instead, install DocVault on the new device and tap the cloud icon at the top of your vault to open the Backup screen. If you enabled Google Drive/iCloud backup, connect the same account and tap Restore; otherwise, import the .dvbackup file you exported from the old device and enter its password. Everything is decrypted locally on the new device.
Yes — DocVault works fully offline day-to-day; scanning, organizing, and searching your vault never require a connection. Internet is only used when you actively connect Google Drive/iCloud or tap "Back up now." Nothing uploads automatically unless you've turned on the "Back up automatically" toggle in Settings.
No. The backup is stored in each service's hidden, app-private storage area (Drive's "App Data" folder, iCloud's app container) — it won't show up alongside your regular files.

🔗 Sharing

Open the document and tap Share — DocVault decrypts a copy and hands it to your phone's normal share sheet, so you can send it via email, WhatsApp, Drive, or any app you choose. This is a one-time export you control; there's no hosted link involved. (A revocable, expiring "Secure Link" is planned for a future version and isn't functional yet, even if you see the option in the app.)

🗑️ Vault & Data

DocVault has no server account, so this is instant and entirely in your hands: go to Settings → Reset Vault to permanently erase everything on this device. If you'd also like us to delete any data you've sent us directly (e.g. an early-access signup), use our Account & Data Deletion page.
